I can’t exactly say as they dropped into that area and were then out of sight. Cheers Steve

Further Tree Sparrows recorded on Caton Green Road this morning.

Birds calling at the Orchard and two birds seen at the former nursing home.

          Cheers

Fantastic news on the recent Bittern increase. Finally, all the time and money spent on improving the reedbed quality seems to be paying off. What a relief for all concerned at LM!

2 birds singing just downstream of Forge Weir, Halton early morning. Upstream further birds at the pipe bridge and one in Burton Woods.

Very unspring like in that wind!

                Cheers

Hi My take on local birding whether rarities or not is that we are currently in a full national lockdown and as such no one should be travelling to see birds full stop.

Now I except a lone birder in a car is not likely to be spreading or contracting the virus but we should be following the spirit as well as the law at the moment.

So in the case of this bird unless you live within walking distance or a ‘very short’ drive away it is off limits in my opinion. Sensibly, Birdguides current policy is not to be putting out rarities during lockdown.

On a personal level the only places I have been birding in 2021 are local walks around Halton and walks up to our building plot and meadow in Brookhouse. I also appreciate not everyone has nice bird rich walking on their doorsteps so short distance travel is permitted for exercise with or without binoculars!

I have probably opened a can of worms here?! Perhaps LDBWS needs to make a statement on what it expects of members during lockdowns in terms of birding trips? Or do we leave it to individuals common sense.

                  Regards

Single Fieldfare chuckling away first thing this morning on Mill Lane, Halton. They appear to have been few and far between so far in 2021. Then again I’ve been to few places in 2021 so far!

                    Cheers

Hi David I have had a few instances of Goldcrest on my feeders over the years. I think they are gleaning whatever insect there is around the food rather than actually eating peanuts etc. being insectivorous. I have seen the same with Treecreepers doing the same in the depths of winter.

                      Cheers

                        Hi Dan

I must be doing something wrong not been able to view a recent photo since the new site launched. All I see when I go to Flicker is the the standard set of old photos?

                        Regards

Shame I am not currently able to do any Moth trapping. There has been some great weather so far in November for migrants.

                          Cheers

                            Hi Dan

                            That’s great. Will do.

Again a big thanks for all the effort put into this project.

                            Cheers

Hi Is it possible to keep my first post as a ‘sticky’?

As I tend to put all my local sightings in one place nowadays throughout the year. I suspect they may get lost if not in an obvious place on the forum. I had a similar arrangement on the previous website.

                              Regards
                              Steve
