        Presumably an additional 3 White-fronted geese were on the saltmarsh with greylags at 11.45am opposite the Golden Ball. Also 240 wigeon, 11 gadwall, 8 teal, 3 goosander and 2 goldeneye on the river.

            A few sightings from here over the last few days :
            9th – Hobby
            8th – green sandpiper, ringed plover flyovers
            7th – merlin, 13+ pied wagtail and 8 meadow pipits following our machines, wheatear
            6th – yellow wagtail, 2 wheatear, 271 teal, 18 wigeon, at least 3 spotted redshank and 6 greenshank

            The diggers have finished working now and the tides this weekend should fill some of the pools a bit more

              Friday afternoon – yellow wagtail flying around the Eric Morecambe pool and a spotted redshank on the Allen pool

                2 juvenile red kites followed silaging tractor for a few minutes just east of the pools at 12.20 then drifted north along the ridge east of Leighton Moss. Also Mediterranean gull with the gulls following the tractor

                  Also 649 Eider and a female common scoter in with them, 6 goosander, 1 teal, 441 Curlew, 509 oystercatcher, 12 ringed plover and 56 lapwing at high tide.

                            Probably the same hawfinches (3 or 4 heard) late morning.

                            Water pipit at Leighton in a cut area near Causeway with 7+ pied wagtails. Bittern booming South of the causeway at the far end. Several Marsh tits now singing here and at Hale Moss Sd5077.

                              I’ve regularly seen pre roost gatherings of up to 30-35 in Scale Hall, Morecambe and once just over 100 at Pine Lake NW corner.

                                      Not a surprise at all to find the black redstart still in the same area of Sandylands near the blue house about 11.05 this morning. Mostly using the gardens today. Don’t be put off by “no sign today” messages! It’s elusive and can easily go out of sight in the gardens or rocks but will surely remain all winter unless we get a spell of hard weather.

                                        Leighton Moss this morning – 7 great white egret left the roost, 3 Marsh harrier, chiffchaff, 70 siskin, 5 mistle thrush, singing stock dove, 6 goldeneye. About 230 lapwing flew west in several flocks including a surprise ruff mid-morning.

                                        Also spotted Redshank on the Eric Morecambe pool and 21 twite and c. 40 skylark at Bolton-Le-Sands.

                                            A chiffchaff on the blue gate path had an entirely white secondary on the right wing.
