Edenbreck cottage, Fairfield5 house martins flying and feeding on insects around the large trees incl sycamore between the Edenbreck cottage (next to Fairfield allotments) and the gravel footpath behind. For the past week there have regularly been between 3-5 house martins feeding at this spot, it must be fruitful.

in reply to: Orange Tips and warblers – please read #9819Did the council reply to you to say why they cut it when they do? The Lancashire Wildlife Trust might be interested if you have photos of the wildlife enjoying the verges?
in reply to: Lancaster Canal bridge 97 10th March #9620There was also a pair of oystercatchers there at the canal, your later post reminded me. Ps I didn’t see the gadwall over the weekend but have seen it in recent weeks, also with a female mallard.
in reply to: Eider morecambe prom #9482Hi Tom, we thought it looked like a f scaup but weren’t sure so thought it was more likely to be the commoner f tufted duck. It seems Nick G has seen a f scaup with some Eider so that may have been the one we saw.
in reply to: Various- Upper Lune Estuary Area #9462A few hundred pink footed geese seen flying north east over Westbourne road a few days ago, coming from aldcliffe direction. I tried counting, it looked like 500-600.

in reply to: Frog pond area #9006Perhaps it is a hybrid goose
in reply to: Frog pond area #9005It is by the brow/ridge at the start of the path from freeman’s pond towards aldcliffe and conder green. Frog pond field is adjacent to the freemands woodland footpath. The geese were in the field on the opposite side of the path, nearer the estuary
in reply to: Gadwall Lancs Canal 21 Feb #8410The man feeding the ducks said he regularly fed them at that spot and that the drake gadwall would always be following a female mallard. He’s not a birder but who knows…? Perhaps imprinted at birth or a bit of a personality?
in reply to: 2 med gulls #7224Wow, an osprey! I wish we could have been with you to see it! Good luck with the walk on 25th April.
We have had four or five blackbirds interested in the berries on our Rowan tree, Westbourne road. There seems to be one in charge, controlling the store, perhaps seeing that it lasts the winter
