When the 2 field trips were initially offered we pointed out that 29 of 55 survey evenings had produced 0-2 contacts. After 10 on the first trip perhaps inevitably we dropped to 1 yesterday evening, so now it is 30/57. In spite of ideal survey conditions, dry and still, all we got was 1 “heard only”.

As for other wildlife, plenty of tawny owl calls, at least 2 species of bat (pips + unidentified straight higher flier), and barking roe. The last reassuring after none on the previous field trip was followed by the information that NT had been called out to 3 deaths from dog attack during the week of that field trip.

Received an update today on the deer deaths. A post mortem indicates one of them was not caused by dog attack.
