The colour-ringed Whooper Swan (ZNL) at Aldcliffe I found on 15/12/22 was ringed at Caerlaverock on 5/3/20, having hatched in the summer of 2019. It was recorded there again the following winter between 25/11/20 to 25/2/21. A change of scenery in Cambridgeshire on 25/10/21. It was back at Caerlaverock last month and last week was its first recorded sighting in Lancashire. The colour-ring was on the left leg which indicates it’s a female. The young lady had another Whooper with it last week so perhaps they may return in the future with a family.

Meanwhile, on Jeremy Lane today there was a pair of Whoopers with five cygnets. I’m not sure if I’ve seen such a large Whooper family before.

Two Bewick’s swans were in the same field.

The eight White-fronted Geese were at Aldcliffe yesterday.

Hi Barrie did you get the metal ring number of this interesting bird? We need it to add to our ringing system.
        best wishes John

          Hi John,
The metal ring number was XY1302.
          All the best,
          Barrie

PS. For some reason, my email to you was bounced back as undeliverable.
