Another good bird day on the estuary this afternoon in some brilliant low afternoon sun,
Birds seen and recorded at the following areas, Lades Marsh Sand Bank, Chapel Sand Bank, (from Basil Point towards Glasson Dock) Glasson Marsh Sand Bank as far down as Crook Farm, Mud Flats and Sand Banks in front of Sunderland Point.
583 Curlew (roosting on an area that slopes down towards a deep gully, many possibly out of site.
2,400 Golden Plover (1400 on Lades Marsh Sand Bank, 1000 on Glasson Marsh sand Bank, later all together at Lades.
      3,600 Lapwing (possibly 4,000)
      300 Dunlin
      570 Wigeon
      1,400 Bar Tailed Godwit
1,200 Knot (a large number to be seen on Lades Marsh Sand Bank, usually out on the west side sand banks)
      280 Black Tailed Godwit.
This will probably be an undercount due to the sheer number of birds grouped together especially on distant Chapel Bank.

We were there 12-1ish. In addition what you saw, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Little Egret, 30-40 Teal, and a Merlin over the salt marsh by Sambo’s Grave

Impressive counts Alan. 3500 Lapwings on the low tide mud (SD457596) at Aldcliffe this afternoon– no doubt at least some of the birds you had.

Green Sandpiper 1 at Stodday Sewage Works (ASC3) also here Shelduck 9 (and a heard-only Rock / Water Pipit).
