St George’s Quay, Lancaster – 1 Rose-ringed Parakeet flew north over Carlisle Bridge towards Ryelands Park at 7.55 am, pursued by a Carrion Crow.
Sunderland, Lune Estuary
1280 Golden Plover – on the mudflats opposite the First Terrace1 colour-ringed & satellite-tagged Curlew – the individual seen at Sunderland several times last autumn and ringed at Tarnbrook on 20/5/22 was again feeding along the tideline below the Second Terrace
2 Peregrine – 1 adult at the Point, 1 juvenile on a post on Middleton Sands, west of the Point
1 juvenile Wheatear – drew attention to itself by briefly landing on my head while I was scoping the juvenile Peregrine!
2 Cattle Egret – 1 with an obvious pale yellow-orange bill flew west then south over the salt-marsh west of the Point, then headed off SE towards Plover Scar. About 20 minutes later a different Cattle Egret flew south over Sunderland Brows Farm and landed among a group of cows in a field east of Sambo’s Grave. It had a much duller bill and was presumably a juvenile. It spent several minutes picking flies off the backs of the resting cows.
Golden Ball, Lune Estuary – 11 Mediterranean Gull (7 adults, 4 2nd winters) and 1 Common Sandpiper
