      Red Grouse young chick seen Clougha yesterday 17th May (H. Lord)

      Lune estuary heronry monitored with Little Egrets and Grey Herons breeding proven this month

      Ringed Plover 17 Aldcliffe Marsh south end SD458597 16th May also 3 Whimbrel.

      Little Ringed Plover 1 and Avocet 1 Wildfowlers Pools north end 17th May (W. Myall)

      Redshank proof of pair breeding by Wildfowlers Pools south end (sadly no Lapwing) in SD46K, also one nest found Stodday Marsh SD45P

      Gadwall active nest found SD45N 16th May, also active Moorhen nest here.

      Eider 3 ducks incubating SD45P

      Turtle Dove 1 flew low east through private site SD45N 16th May

      Cetti’s Warbler 1 carrying food, Common Whitethroat 1 carrying food, Chiffchaff 1 feeding 3 fledglings SD46K 1SD46

      Willow Warbler probable breeding (1 pair) Freeman’s Wood west end SD46K noted on two dates this month

      Lesser Whitethroat one nest with young found Fairfield NR SD46Q also singing Grasshopper Warbler 16th May

      Greenfinch nest (with noisy well grown nestlings) SD46K at New Quay Road SD460619 16th May

        If you’re not up for taking a major part in the LDBWS breeding atlas, please share with us casual records as and when.

        Attached are some sample maps* for when you might note breeding records in your garden, on your patch or on your travels. All records (with tetrad e.g. ‘SD48B’ and or grid reference, even What3Words) are valuable, so please send them via this forum or club email ldbws.info@gmail.com It could be a Buzzard nest in a wood, young Pied Wagtails being fed on your lawn, Goosander ducklings on your nearest river, sparrows or martins under your eaves. All records very gratefully received.
