      A few highlights from this morning’s bike ride:

      Singing Common Chiffchaffs: 1 in Freeman’s Wood, 1 along the trail 300 metres north of Stodday water treatment plant.

      6 Avocets (two copulating) in the River Lune near Ashton.

      Large tightly-packed flock of roosting waders seen from Conder Green car park. Most numerous species was Bar-tailed Godwit (including a few going into breeding plumage) and also plenty of Knot.

      And a few Dunnocks singing their little hearts out……

        11 March morning:

        15 Avocets – 13 on the Lune, 2 on Conder Pool

        Two “new” Chiffchaffs singing today – Wildfowlers’ Pools and Conder Green Car Park

        Reed Buntings seem to be coming back on territory

        50 Black-tailed Godwits in two fields east of cycle path at Aldcliffe

        1300 Pink-footed Geese in field east of cycle path, immediately S of Freeman’s Wood

          2 adult summer Mediterranean Gulls flew south over the River Lune at Aldcliffe Marsh at 1.40 pm.

          156 Teal and 20 Black-tailed Godwit on the flooded field at the end of Aldcliffe Hall Lane.
