Greenshank 6
Ruff 1 both on Island in Causeway PoolHouse Martins
A Warton resident tells me that the House Martins nesting this year in his area has gone down from 6-8 nests in past years to only one nest this year and these arrived later than usual. Had similar comments about low numbers this year from several other birders. Would be interesting to get any other records of this years population compared to previous years.
Thanks

Hi John,
On the estate where I live, my maximum number of nests last year was 34. This year it is 12. My first HM sighting was three weeks later than last year as well.Staveley
There used to be a large colony of House Martins on the Houses next to the Village Hall. The Martins were not seen again after the old Nests were cleaned away!
I wonder if this is what is causing the decline in Numbers at Warton?Jim Shep.
Number of nests at Chancellor’s Wharf, Lancaster are well down this year. Similarly, very few nesting swallows seen in lots of traditional sites.
Agree – swallows are way down NE lancs more so than HM
