The RSPB, including the Lancaster local group and other community organisations, are setting up a Swift City project to try to help halt the decline of these wonderful birds whose numbers have fallen by over 50% in 20 years.

We are recruiting surveyors who will go out a couple of times a month in May, June and July to do a systematic survey to check numbers and locate nests.

We are also looking for people who can help raise awareness, put up nest boxes and generally get involved with the scheme and would love to hear from anyone who would like to help. At the moment, surveyors are the first priority, so if you would like to help with that please contact us at [email protected] and we will set you up with an area and info on how to submit data via Swift Mapper.

I know LDBWS members will be clued up on how to do this, but if you know of anyone else who might be interested, training is available.

      Many thanks,
      Alasdair
