Chiffchaff in the Japanese Garden this morning – first I have had in the Park this winter – wintering bird or early returning migrant? Not singing or calling, just feeding.

After the storms, noticeable upturn in sightings this month – treecreeper, nuthatch, goldcrest all in evidence. Mallard numbers down at the moment and obviously pairing off. Moorhen pair still present – the line they used to climb up to their nest has been disrupted by one of the trees falling, but interesting to see them climbing and looking for a route. Wrens obviously interested in the areas where there are fallen trees providing cover.

This morning a pair of sparrowhawks was displaying as they soared above the Park – but they don’t nest in the park.

Long-tailed tit exploring area where they usually nest.
