Spring tide passerines ‘Aldcliffe Marsh S / Snipe Bog’ SD459597
Goldfinch c20
Rock Pipit 8+ (1:10PM)
Pied Wagtail 7
Skylark 5
Water Pipit 2
Meadow Pipit 1‘Stodday Marsh’ SD458583
Rock Pipit 12 (1:10PM)
No doubt most of these pipits will cease to exist until the next 10-metre plus tides…. does anybody want to get involved in a LDBWS coordinated count next time around? An observer or two at as many of the key spring tide sites as possible– e.g. points at Aldcliffe, Stodday Marsh, Heaton Marsh, Conder Green, Lades Marsh, Middleton Sands…? Would be interesting to have a good estimate at the wintering population.
Photos of a Rock Pipit and Water Pipit at Aldcliffe today. Unfortunately the Water Pipit photo was taken through a hedge but hopefully does show the contrast with the Rock.
