Noon today, half tide at Teal Bay. Nothing of significance on the shore. A very long line of medium/small black ducks in the Kent Channel holding station. Not seen this before. Some diving but more raising up and flapping with their neck upstretched. Perhaps 80 to 100 birds, all black or dark. Didn’t have a telescope to get a good view but bins implied common scoter. Is this possible so close into shore? The weather was very squally and they could have been driven in. Things they were not definitely…eider (too small and not half the raft bicoloured), mallard, widgeon, teal, pintail. Interesting.
