A chiffchaff was seen on the eastern bank of the Lancaster Canal between Deep Cutting and Haverbreaks. This is my first ever January chiffchaff and it was very nice to hear its gentle call and see its bobbing tail about 10 weeks sooner than I normally would.
There was also a confiding kingfisher on the same stretch.
A male bullfinch made a visit to my Hala garden on Christmas Day.
