I thought members might be interested to see the information below, which appeared as part of Morecambe Bay hospitals corporate communications earlier this week:

“You may be aware of the confirmed Avian Influenza cases in Cumbria and Lancashire over the past couple of weeks. Advice has been shared with the public here in relation to the Cumbria outbreak over the weekend. This includes guidance for people who may find dead birds in the wild advising they should not touch them, but should report them to DEFRA on 03000 200 301 (England only).”

The bulletin is referring to cases of avian influenza (“bird flu”) in humans, and there have definitely been cases detected among wild and domesticated fowl across the NW and North Wales. Would be interesting to hear what response you get from DEFRA if you do find and report a dead bird.
