A quick (by my standards) ride round a very dry Aldcliffe late afternoon.
Aldcliffe Marsh S: 150 Woodpigeon, 90 Starlings (mostly juvenile), 4 Redshanks and 3 singing Skylarks.
Freeman’s Pools (A2): at least 25 broods of Black-headed Gull chicks on island. 25 House Martins and a Swallow feeding overhead.
Kestrel hovering over Freeman’s Wood W.
Interesting starling observations Dan. I was recently remarking how few ‘post-breeding’ starling flocks i’ve seen so far and how few juvs appear to be in those groups. My last Aldcliffe visit earlier this week saw hardly any. Good to hear they’re on their way!

A snipe was stood on a post at Wildfowlers’ this evening.
Fledged greenfinch and goldfinch at Weedy Corner.Intriguing about the Snipe. Would be great to hear some drumming.
Yes, that was my thought also.
