Hawfinch field trip and survey – Leaders John Webb and Andrew McCafferty (field trip), Nick Godden (survey)
A repeat of our two successful visits in recent years with a slight twist where we ask experienced birders to join us for a co-ordinated survey in an attempt to better understand hawfinch’s distribution and abundance in our area. Join John and Andrew for a traditional field trip looking for hawfinch in the Coldwell Parrock area. We will walk through the woodland, overlook part of Silverdale Moss and then walk towards Hawes Water back through Gait Barrows. This will be a roughly 2-3 mile walk, with the option to make it a much shorter walk focused around the area of most hawfinch sightings if you don’t want to do the full walk. There are 15 places available so please book by e-mailing [email protected]. Members free – non members £10.
The survey runs separately to the field trip and will require birders familiar with those tricky calls to take up suitable positions in likely habitat for 2-3 hours (or longer if you wish!) and map all sightings with as much detail as possible. Let Nick know if you’d like to take part in the survey and we’ll provide more details.
