The resident pair of crows appear to have sucessfully fledged 3 youngsters. They spend most of the day strolling the fields of Cross Hill Park picking up beetles and chafer larvae to my benefit. They did however create a lot of excitement yesterday when one of the adults arrived on the field with a complete swallow nest including 3 young. The destruction and consumption was ruthless and brutal and nothing remained except the nest. The fledglings were perhaps just days from flying. The same crows know damn well where the two swallow nests in my machine shed are, but cannot access it most of the time because the doors are closed and the swallows have entry through the eaves. I don’t interfere because this is natural but the brutality they display is formidable.
