        Hi Felicity.

Don’t forget to specify which ‘martin’ you have- Sand Martin or House Martin. (Swallows are also martins, confusingly!).

I’d imagine these were House Martins on this occasion. The chunky ones, with the white rumps?

Thanks Dan. They were probably house martins but was being driven in a taxi so couldn’t use my binocs. Will try to be more specific 🙂

            Speaking of House Martins…

A slightly rushed walk around the new(ish) estate opposite Quernmore Road Co-op (Wentworth Drive, etc) this evening found 8 House Martin nests in the eaves. Not a thorough survey, so hopefully I missed a couple.

Also heard two singing Greenfinch, and saw two bonny juvenile Goldfinch feeding by the children’s play area.

              30th May
              C 11am
              Edenbreck cottage, Fairfield

5 house martins flying and feeding on insects around the large trees incl sycamore between the Edenbreck cottage (next to Fairfield allotments) and the gravel footpath behind. For the past week there have regularly been between 3-5 house martins feeding at this spot, it must be fruitful.

              Also: c 10.15
2 swifts feeding fairly low above mini roundabout at bottom of Westbourne road, joining willow Lane, heading towards the willow Lane playing field where we often see swifts and house martins.

Nice to hear re Quernmore road nesting 🙂
