Heysham North Harbour Wall (7.40 – 9.25 am) – A rather underwhelming sea-watch:
7 Sandwich Tern
5 Red-throated Diver (distant)
2 ‘Auk species’ (probably Razorbill, but again distant)
8 Common Scoter (very distant)
1 Harbour Porpoise
1 Whimbrel (my first of 2023)
1 Rock Pipit
Pine Lake – Female Common Scoter still in NE corner
Island Mere, Leighton Moss – 4 Pochard (3 males, 1 female)
Skytower, Leighton Moss – 8 Pochard (5 males, 3 females)
Eric Morecambe Pools (from Crag Road)
44 Avocet – 32 on the Flood, 12 on the Allen Pool
4 Mediterranean Gull – 3 adults, 1 2nd summer on the Allen Pool
1 Great White Egret – on the Flood
c. 2000 Black-tailed Godwit – roosting on Eric Morecambe Pool south
20 Pintail – on the Flood
8 Pochard (6 males, 2 females) – on Barrow Scout Fields, plus 1 male on the Allen Pool
