It’s that time of year again when it’s possible to count rookeries. The Rooks at Claughton are still nest building with 10 nests so far behind the brickworks and 3 at the junction of the A683 and Caton Green Road.

16 nests part built at the junction of the As83 and the road to Wray in the flimsiest of larches.

c5 nests today in “Weasel Wood” near Great Crimbles (SD4550).

7 or 8 nests when I last looked at the rookery straddling Standen Park/Fenham Carr/Lancaster Cemetery (SD4934).

61 nests counted around Bailrigg village/North Dr. Entrance at Lancaster University.

The new rookery on the junction of Brantwood Drive/Whinfell Drive and Scotforth Rd. has 8 nests (3 in 2023, 5 in 2024). I have yet to count the Collingham Park/A6 rookery.

              SD4961 Williamson Park/Fenham Carr/Lancaster Cemetery junction: 20 nests (19 last year)
SD4960 Entrance to Pottery Gardens: 15 nests (23 last year)
SD4961 Grab Lane: 13 nests (12-14 last year – I never got a proper count)

Apologies – my previous post in this thread had completely the wrong grid reference for the Fenham Carr rookery. The correct reference is SD4961.

A new? rookery seen at Pine Lake along the A6 today. A few seen in the fields at New Road/Slackwood Lane junction in Silverdale over the last couple of weeks – uncommon here.

Approximately 35 nests at the entrance to Ellel Grange.

I also spotted the rookery on the Heysham bypass. Another rookery which only gets a quick glance due to driving at speed, is one next to the M6 within the grounds of the church at Scorton. There are approximately 10 nests here. There also appears to be a large rookery at the southbound Forton services.
