A check through the Herring Gulls and Lesser Black-backed Gulls bathing on the River Lune opposite the Golden Ball at low tide this afternoon revealed at least 35 with pale yellow staining on their throat and breast – possibly due to paint or dye. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Also: 31 Little Egret spread along the river between Marsh Point at the NW corner of Aldcliffe Marsh and New Quay Road, Lancaster – easily the most I’ve ever seen on this stretch of the Lune.

      A 2019 Bowland colour-ringed Lesser Black-backed Gull (Green N:A77) also present.
