Saw what had to be a Pine Marten this evening: darkish brown cat sized animal with a thickish tail bounding straight up a beech tree. I’m not going to say where here – it’s a keepered area.
Any idea who the correct organisation to report it to is?

Hi Jon, I would try The Vincent Wildlife Trust. They are a mammal conservation organisation and specialise in Pine Martens. I don’t have a personal contact but their website should direct you.

I have found an interesting video re Prine Martins in Northern England see https://www.vwt.org.uk/videos/the-pine-marten-back-from-the-brink-in-northern-england/ Click on the Videos Link. Remember we are only a few miles from Cumbria.

I’ve told the Vincent Trust and the county mammal recorder – lets see what they make of it

Got a reply from the County Mammal Recorder, Tony Parker:
“It is quite possible that there are Pine Marten in that area, the Mammal Society’s recent mammal atlas has a record from that area during the period 2000 – 2016.”
