      Cuckoo singing SD 474 798 (Storth, Greenbank Avenue) 19th May (perhaps the same male heard by Challan Hall 10th May?)

      Has anyone seen / heard any Cuckoos at Birk Bank this spring?

      Green Woodpecker pair SD 467 783

      Also a selection noted as probably breeding or confirmed* as breeding in SD47U this month;

      Gadwall*, Mallard*, Shelduck, Greylag Goose*, Lapwing*, Redshank*, Curlew*, Swallow*, Song Thrush*, Mistle Thrush*, Blackbird*, Robin*, Marsh Tit, Long-tailed Tit*, Meadow Pipit*, Pied Wagtail*, Skylark*, Stock Dove* Great Spotted Woodpecker*, Grey Wagtail, Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Grasshopper Warbler*, Sedge Warbler*, Reed Warbler, Willow Warbler*, Chiffchaff*, Goldcrest, Greenfinch*, Bullfinch, Chaffinch, House Sparrow*, Reed Bunting*.

      Anyone able to fill in my gaps? House Martin? Swift? Starling? Treecreeper, Woodpigeon?

      Hawfinch confirmed as breeding SD47T, after ‘probable’ in 2024.

      Lune Estuary 20th May;

      Avocet pair two Wildfowlers Pools north end (including blue C3)

      Bar-tailed Godwit five at mouth of Conder SD453563

      At least two broods of Redshank chicks SD457558 (Conder estuary saltmarsh)

      Cheers!

        Cuckoos at Birk Bank: yes. One heard, and then seen, on 5th May while I was going up Clougha. Saw it perched atop a large hawthorn (mobbed by small birds) at approx SD 53419 60142. It then flew north, directly above me, and landed on rocks at top of Windy Clough, from where it continued calling for a long time.
