The best sighting of the day was a pair of Water Rails with a small chick right at the waters edge and at times onto the water right in front of the first hide at Fell End. One adult swam across the mere to a vegetated island calling all the time. The chick came out onto the water then back into cover and the adult flew back still calling They seem to be trying to get the chick to cross to the island. Watched for ca 15 mins but they moved away. Never seen Water Rail this young before. 8 Fallow Deer on view at the same time.
