Spent 0830-1315 searching coastal sites for scarce or rare songbirds.

In brackets are the various species I was hoping to find at each stop, with the stark reality (of what was the next best thing) underneath. The target fantasy birds are in latin for safety’s sake.

      Morecambe Stone Jetty

      (Phoenicurus ochruros phoenicuroides)

      Rock Pipit 1

      Heysham Head

      (Regulus ignicapilla)
      (Phylloscopus fuscatus)

      Goldcrest 1
      Song Thrush 1

      Smithy Wood / Smithy Scrub

      (Phylloscopus humei)
      (Curruca undata)

      Goldcrest 5
      Blackcap 1 (male, ringed)

      Heysham NR

      (Phylloscopus proregulus)
      (Phylloscopus schwarzi)

      Goldcrest 4
      Chiffchaff 1

      Moneyclose Lane / Dog Track

      (Tarsiger cyanurus)
      (Phylloscopus inornatus)
      (Loxia pytyopsittacus)

3 goldcrests in Happy Mount Park but that is not unusual.

(I recall being at Spurn when there was a goldcrest fall – nearly a thousand birds counted)
