Green Woodpecker on the middle south facing slopes of Heathwaite, Arnside. They have become so scarce now they are absent from many areas I previously could guarantee seeing them. Has the dearth of air borne insects extended to previously common underground species such as yellow meadow ants? All of the eighty or so nests of Southern Wood ants in Eaves Wood have disappeared.
