Fairfield ~11am:
7 woodpigeons and a squirrel on or around the feeding tables mostly keeping the smaller birds away, but I did see one reed bunting, two linnet, 5 or 6 chaffinches and a robin. Also a jay in the bushes near the tables.
Aldcliffe Marsh/Lune/Wildfowler pools ~midday:
– At least one GBB gull on the river
– 1 kestrel hunting on the marsh.
– c120 Canada geese on the marsh and c190 greylags on the fields near the Wildfowlers’ Pools
– 1 little grebe and c60 teal on the pools
Lune between Aldcliffe and Conder ~1-2pm:
– Very busy with waders (mostly lapwing) on the sand banks opposite the solar farm
– Also 4 goosander (2m/2f) and 5 wigeon
– Black-tailed godwit flock a little further towards Conder (couldn’t see the whole flock from where I was but counted 165)
Lune at Conder/Glasson ~2:30-3:
– More godwits, teal, wigeon and waders including 12 snipe
– Most of these birds (2000+?) flushed by a female marsh harrier at 2:50 – she flew off towards Sunderland Point
