An impressive wader roost at Conder Pool over this afternoon’s high tide:
540 Redshank
13 Greenshank
90 Dunlin
5 Common Sandpiper
1 Bar-tailed Godwit
6 Avocet (2 adults, 4 juveniles)

Also:
17 Common Tern (6 adults, 6 fledged juveniles, 4 chicks on the tern raft, 1 chick being fed out of sight on one of the islands)
9 Little Grebe (7 adults, 2 juveniles)
1 2nd CY Mediterranean Gull – flew over from Thurnham and headed off towards Glasson Dock
2 neck-collared Greylag Goose on Conder Creek – SCU and SHP

Note that the juvenile Common Terns reared on Conder Pool have got a red ring with a 3 digit number, so I’d be grateful for time and date of any that are recorded here or elsewhere. All records of birds reared at the pool are useful so that we have a better idea of when they leave. Common and Sandwich Terns ringed at Hodbarrow in Cumbria are already being seen on their way south.

Another visit to Conder Pool to coincide with this afternoon’s high tide:
120 Redshank – far fewer than yesterday
13 Greenshank
46 Dunlin
9 Common Sandpiper
1 Bar-tailed Godwit
2 Black-tailed Godwit
6 Avocet (2 adults, 4 juveniles – one with yellow flag on left tibia – 6J)

Also:
15 Common Tern (8 adults, 3 fledged juveniles, 4 chicks on the tern raft)
9 Little Grebe (7 adults, 2 juveniles)

Aldcliffe Road, Lancaster – 1 Common Tern fishing in Lancaster Canal between Penny Street Bridge and the Water Witch!
