Please keep sending in your breeding records to either your local 10km square coordinator or to ldbws.info@gmail.com . Many resident birds are fledging young and the early spring migrants are busy bringing food to chicks in nests and young of birds like tawny owl can be very vocal so it is a good time to get confirmed breeding evidence of many species. In particular, we’d be interested to receive your breeding records for under-recorded species which include but arent limited to raven, Dipper, kestrel, tawny owl, mistle thrush and starling.

We had a group fieldwork session in north east of our recording area. Thanks to Jane and Andrew who helped out. We will do another session on Saturday 7th June so hopefully those who booked on originally but had to miss out due to various commitments could take part next time.

      Selected highlights:

      Goosander – seen in SD67 D, G, Q and W
Tree sparrow – found east of Burton in Lonsdale SD67L and fledged young SD67C
Spotted flycatcher – singles in SD6772 and SD6471
Pied flycatcher – alarm calling from Leck Beck at Over burrow Sd67c
Dipper – just one all morning at Over Burrow SD67C
Marsh tit – 2 at SD671716 and one alarm calling at Greta Wood SD647717
      Redstart 1 singing Sd6573

Common resident birds or early spring migrants such as treecreeper, Goldcrest, coal tit, chiffchaff and various finches and thrushes confirmed breeding in several tetrads.
