      Little Grebe 3
      Great Black-backed Gull 3
      Mute Swan 3
      Reed Warbler 3 in song

      (no evidence of BH gull colony)

      In most early to Mid Mays I do a singing warbler count along the cycle path between Freeman’s Pools and Stodday Picnic Area. This morning’s tally below doesn’t compare too well so hopefully there are more arrivals to come to plug the gaps;

      Blackcap 5
      Whitethroat 4
      Lesser Whitethroat 3
      Sedge Warbler 3 competing close together by Wildfowlers Pools S
      Chiffchaff 2 only but a further 3 seen foraging
      Cetti’s Warbler 1
      Willow Warbler 1 probable migrant

      Further to this transect, singing warblers noted elsewhere in my quick morning circuit included;

      Whitethroat 1 at 466 598 near Aldcliffe Village plus 2 at Fairfield NR
      Lesser Whitethroat 2 at Fairfield NR

      Aldcliffe Marsh;

      Redshank- plenty of song flight activity from 8 or 9 birds, perhaps indicating that some clutches have been lost to recent spring tides.

      Whimbrel 3

      Lapwing 1 male displaying over south end

      Jackdaw 1 showing characteristics of Eastern forms (see pic)

      Visible migration noted in one hour limited to;

      Swallow 4 N
      Swift 2 N
      Siskin 1 NE
