Highlights from late afternoon (c2.15pm-4..30pm) included
11 barnacle geese on Aldcliffe Marsh
1 barn owl hunting by the frozen Wildfowlers’ Pools and again at Freeman’s Pools where it got into a scrap with a buzzard.
Mr. Atkins (the Cetti’s Warbler) still holding territory on the Haverbreaks to Deep Cutting stretch of the canal today.
While he may not have the towpath appeal of the female Kingfisher, 'Mr. Atkins' the lonesome Cetti's Warbler (pictured today) is still my canal number one. It put on quite a show* for me and fellow admirer @SteveThackeray. pic.twitter.com/QyT5CuZUHB
I managed to get a glimpse of Mr. Atkins today, having visually eluded me for at least 6 months. It flew in to a clump of dead reeds on the towpath side and then skulked there, only showing its presence with the occasional movement of the reeds.
