      Not unknown but certainly unusual. I went out to bring the washing in at 4.45pm in Freehold and in the branches of a cherry tree next door but one was a tawny owl. Perhaps 20 yards away. I watched for a short period, then gave it a few hoots to see if it responded. It swivelled its head towards me then remained still for about 5 minutes. It then flew off to cross Derwent Road towards the allotments.
