Parakeet, Lancaster

Parakeet, Lancaster

I have seen a single parakeet around the Freehold area of Lancaster about 3 or 4 times this winter, always noisy and always flying over but never stopping. I was in conversation with a friend yesterday in the supermarket and mentioned the said bird. To my surprise she showed me a photo of a neighbour's bird feeders in Haverbreaks, apparently on the Royal Albert side near the gateway bollard. I have cropped it down to fit site requirements but it's still a reasonable evidential shot of a rose ringed parakeet. The photo was taken on 5th January so I guess it's a candidate for inclusion in the SD46 winter survey. Worth looking out for at city-wide feeders I guess. Someone in the Haverbreaks/Aldcliffe area may know more than I do about where this parakeet roams, but the reporter is a 100% reliable source.

While I was home for Christmas, I heard one (being a Londoner, the call is etched in my brain, sounded very like the standard Ring-necked to me) calling opposite Chancellor's Wharf by the canal. Couldn't see it, but I guess this is roughly the same sort of area. I just assumed that they'd colonised, but from what you're saying there might just be one!
