Egret count weekend.
16th: 7 great whites and 5 little egrets out by 7.35 when the roost erupted, birds in all directions and count lost. Probably disturbance by marsh harrier or peregrine, as both around.
17th: 4 great whites out at 7.20, 77 little egrets between 7.20 and 7.50. Today's eruption, when peregrine inspected roost, less spectacular.
Bitterns were flight calling both mornings.
6.55 - 7.05 on the 16th, intermittent short bursts with a silhouette dropping to the causeway side of Lower Hide.
7.00 on the 17th a few short calls, then a bird came out from near Lower, and flew steadily over the causeway towards Grisedale / Barrow Scout calling strongly.
2 swallows Silverdale Shore on 14th October, 2 below Eaves Wood on 16th.
High tide at Silverdale Shore on 14th: 15 curlew, 2 black-tailed godwit, 192 oystercatchers, 3 shelduck, 16 mallard, 211 redshank, 4 little egret, 5 eider, 38 wigeon, 2 cormorant, and the 5 regular gull species (not counted).
