Sorry forgot to put this on last night.

Went to Tower Lodge area to look for bramblings but no sign at all, however the weather (which looked so good in Bare) was not good in Bowland with heavy showers all afternoon.

Walked up the track by Tower Lodge - wren, great tit, chaffinch. Onto the moorland at the top as a shower arrived so we scuttled back down. As we did, a glance back caught a ring-tail hen harrier sailing across the top of the rise, going west.

Back to Stoops Bridge - 1 grey wagtail, woodpigeon, jackdaw roost in the north end of Large Wood.

Anyone else seen bramblings since the reports early last week?

Yes - just find the beech trees with mast and search through the Chaffinch eg Barleybank. Quite a few on vis mig as well

Lower bits of road down to Abbeystead from near Jubilee tower worth a check

Quite a few Brambling on vis from Heysham Head turret this am - a good place for a big sit/stand count with RTD and three Goldeneye on sea as well as landbird vis

We saw quite a lot of brambling on the track from Tower Lodge on Sunday afternoon. They were feeding on the ground and in the trees with chaffinches.
There was also a flock of about 150 fieldfares nearby.

Thanks for info. Extraordinary about Tower Lodge. We were there from 13.45 to 14.30 on Sunday afternoon(in heavy showers) and only saw 2 chaffinches high on trees at top of track. I heard one brief call and wasn't sure if it was mistle thrush or fieldfare, and couldn't find it anyway.

We also prowled the area - Marshaw where they always used to get near the junction and some of the back roads until we got to Abbeysteads.

Never mind, we'll persist.
