Upwards of 30 Swifts feeding low over the Folly Lane scrape and surrounding field. Also single numbers of Swallow and House Martin with them mid afternoon today.

This pool also has good numbers of dragonflies - Emperor and Broad-bodied chaser seen plus many damselflies (unable to identify at range with binoculars) . Painted Ladies everywhere!

As far as I could see there were no 'red' dragonfly species.

This scrape pool (with the coots) and the major bypass bund pond on Barley Cop Lane are worth watching now for both low feeding hirundines and swifts and insects. Both are easily accessable with a car and on foot. Across the road from the bund pond at Torrisholme CC we have had several encounters with odonata this week. . Of the darters I could only confidently say I nearly mowed over what I took to be a female common darter but it flew off as I stopped in time. These pools are immature but there is a lot of life already.
