Velvet Scoter and seabirds

A female Velvet Scoter flying out then landing on the sea was a nice surprise off Heysham Head today, a good month before we might have expected anything like this passing through

The rest was a question of degrees. The first 20 mins of the seawatch were pretty good with a straggling half mile of inbound Kittiwake totalling about 270 interspersed with a mid distance spread out gang of 16 Little Gull and a couple of Ad Gannet
Then the wind swung fractionally, and gusts buffeted the window clamp scope so I went for the shelter at the back of the harbour. Not one seabird in the next 30 mins and similar switch off for Ian at Rossall
