At 2.30 p.m. today, 1 male scoter close in between Happy Mount Park and Scalestones, being attacked by a herring gull. The gull flew above the duck, dived on iy and the duck submerged to appear a couple of metres away, when the whole process repeated. There were two period of sustained attack lasting about 5 minutes each with a 5 minute gap between. The scoter didn't appear to suffer any harm and continued to swim - drifting in and along in the wind in spite of swimming out.
