Pink-footed Goose

Two recent mornings of south westerlies have seen a significant northbound ex-roost movement over Heysham but not a feeding movement but a presumed overshoot of birds heading back over the lakes to eg the Solway. 3800 ish today, 2280 ish two days ago. Not seen this before.

This Northerly movement was not just Morecambe Bay but also recorded in Lancs (Heysham, Widnes, Darwen) and also in Yorkshire (Bradford and Calderdale and Anglers CP) on both of the mentioned days and what makes it even more interesting the Northerly movement was also recorded in Fife, Scotland. Yes it happened here as well whilst watching from Burton (with bulk of move across the Bay N, but also two skeins directly above Burton), but most of my counts will have been the same birds as Heysham.

Thursday 27/09 - c.08.30am rough count estimate of about 650 Pinkfeet well east of Kendal flying north, one skein after another (unable to watch for > 5 minutes as going out so could well have been more)
