Could someone give me some idea of what these c50 little Egrets were doing in a group opposite Sandside? An amazing sight shining in the sun.

Mike they look like they are feeding on the tidal small fish which occur frequently.

Redders
I was on the opposite bank and counted 52, plus 9 further down towards the mouth of the River Bela- 61 in all.
It looked like a feeding frenzy and it eventually came to a halt when the tide came in.

Other birds seen- 2 Northern Wheatear off Ulpha Meadows on the flood defences.
29 Cormorant
34 Goosander
1 Common Snipe
14 Dunlin
107 Lapwing
31 Meadow Pipit.

It amazes me how these groups form.

I didn't count that may Goosanders, a great sight!

I saw my first Arnside Dunlin of this autumn a couple of days ago. We seem to be acquiring some more Curlew also.

Thanks Mark and John for your comments.
