Chough

Chough
December 03, 2017 06:11PM
The Chough was very elusive for people searching in the usual horse fields area today with a reported sighting in the morning and a sighting at 1300hrs. This does suggest that it is spending time on the Barrows to the south of the churchyard and accessible following the path past the churchyard and through the two arches. Likely to be mobile over quite a large area. Ian had it feeding along the cliff edge on this side of the Head yesterday afternoon

There right along the fence along the path again this am ignoring passers by unless anyone stopped to look then it flew away. Note the repeated theme about where you should place yourself - I recommend staying in the car or on knowlys road footpath until it appears

It's favoured area was in the shade and frozen today. It was described as being in the horse paddock today at 1130 but "mobile". I had quick checks either side of the headland 10ish, 1045ish and 1415ish but didn't see it today. It's obviously found some softer ground less easy to see.

One the south side this am on the foreshore and around the sheep field on or above Half Moon Bay. Horse paddock is frozen and in the shade, but it is thawing now

Thanks go to Pete Crooks for today's header photo of Aldcliffe. If you have a suitable picture of a local birding spot, why not send it to the webmaster, at andymccafferty@gmail.com? I need to resize (and if necessary crop) pictures to make them 600x130 pixels, so ideally send it at that size (definitely not smaller).
