Leighton Moss - Sunday morning
November 12, 2017 04:36PM
Island Mere (7.05 - 8.10 am) - Arrived a little later than I would have liked so probably missed some egrets departing from the roost, but still managed:
2 Great White Egret - 1 flew SW towards Grisedale Hide; 1 flew NW towards Silverdale Moss
3 Cattle Egret - remained in the dead trees at Island Mere until 8.00 am, then flew to Brow Foot Farm
27 Little Egret - 11 flew off NE towards Yealand Storrs; the rest headed off SW towards Carnforth Marsh (all but one departed between 7.05 and 7.25 am)
1 Cetti's Warbler calling somewhere towards the Causeway

Eric Morecambe Pools - c.800 Greylag Geese and 3 female Goosander on The Flood; 1 Cetti's Warbler calling near Eric Morecame Hide

Allen Pool car park - 4 Brambling amongst the finch flock c.100 metres beyond the car park

Causeway Hide - The same 3 Cattle Egret flew up from the Island Mere/Lower Hide area and headed off NW towards Silverdale Moss at 10.25 am.
Also 30 Pintail 112 Wigeon, 158 Shoveler, 145 Gadwall, 110 Teal, 20 Tufted Duck and 1 Goldeneye

Jackson Hide - A Jack Snipe showing quite well from the left-hand side of the hide, occasionally wandering out to 'bob' in full view.
Also: 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Great White Egret (low over the reed bed, then heading off towards Barrow Scout) and 1 Cetti's Warbler calling towards Grisedale Hide.

(Incidentally recent evening checks of the egrets coming in to roost at Island Mere by Mark Prestwood include 4 Great White Egret and 4 Marsh Harrier on 4th Nov. and 3 Great White Egret on 10th Nov).

3 Cattle Egrets on Tuesday Nov 7th again in field near Arnside Tower with a large herd of cows but not seen since probably because the cows keep being moved.

Thanks go to Pete Crooks for today's header photo of Aldcliffe. If you have a suitable picture of a local birding spot, why not send it to the webmaster, at andymccafferty@gmail.com? I need to resize (and if necessary crop) pictures to make them 600x130 pixels, so ideally send it at that size (definitely not smaller).
