Torrisholme swallows

Remarkable ... after 17 years of hoping to attract swallows into my old machine shed without success I have done it without trying. We knocked the old one down last October and spent the winter and spring building a new one on the same footprint. As soon as the slate roof went on in April/May they were in and are now feeding decent sized young on top of a large steel UB under the ridge. When I lock up the feeding goes on through the open eaves I need to have to allow fuel vapour ventilation. Fifty yards away the first brood of swallows emerged from a stable about 10 days ago and is being fed on a new telephone wire. Pretty happy.

Thanks go to Pete Crooks for today's header photo of Aldcliffe. If you have a suitable picture of a local birding spot, why not send it to the webmaster, at andymccafferty@gmail.com? I need to resize (and if necessary crop) pictures to make them 600x130 pixels, so ideally send it at that size (definitely not smaller).
