Thanks to finder and Pete Marsh for call. There was an adult male Common Scoter approx. 50m upstream of the eastern cycle bridge at 12:25. Bird jet black with yellow culmen etc. looks settled at present.

Second record here in 2 years and probably just about annual on cross-country passage.

Also unringed Common Sandpiper on exposed western rocks and new brood of 9 Mallard.

Cheers
Steve

Yes found by Lancaster and Morecambe U 3A birding group at 11am.

I couldn't see a bulge on the top of the bill so thought it might be first summer. I have photos which I will sort out and post.

Still around until at least 16:00. It had moved slightly further upstream and was actively diving, still viewable from cycle bridge though.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks go to Pete Crooks for today's header photo of Aldcliffe. If you have a suitable picture of a local birding spot, why not send it to the webmaster, at andymccafferty@gmail.com? I need to resize (and if necessary crop) pictures to make them 600x130 pixels, so ideally send it at that size (definitely not smaller).
