Hobby - 3rd July

Hobby - 3rd July

First heard calling this afternoon but not seen. High pitched re: Lesser Pecker falcon call. Early this evening flew over house at Crook O' Lune a couple of times, mobbed by a Jackdaw and landed briefly in a large Larch tree. Appears to be a first summer bird/ non-breeder. White underparts but no red trousers.

Lune Valley looks ideal for the species and plenty of avian food around for them. However, my first record here and a nice garden tick. As Hobbies can be habitual I will be keeping my ears pricked and eyes peeled!

Cheers
Steve

Hobby called again around 17:00 this afternoon. Located around 21:40 it sat scanning the area from approx. 70' up a large Redwood. Watched for at least 20 minutes.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks go to Pete Crooks for today's header photo of Aldcliffe. If you have a suitable picture of a local birding spot, why not send it to the webmaster, at andymccafferty@gmail.com? I need to resize (and if necessary crop) pictures to make them 600x130 pixels, so ideally send it at that size (definitely not smaller).
