Caton Moor 09.10.2005
0850-1050

Pity I missed the first hour

Crossbill calling as I got out of the car
alba Wagtail 58 - steady flurries of gangs of 3-5.
Meadow Pipit 244
Linnet 15
Goldfinch 31
Stock Dove 3
Chaffinch 6 (mostly SW)
Mistle Thrush 2
360 birds, 8 species. 2hrs.

Most birds coming from the east, some fom the north east then turning south
over the moor. As the spot where I stand is east east north east of Heysham,
the comment about Chaffinches at Heysham is pertinent. At Fairhaven 1051 Chaffinches were logged.
Because of the wind, all birds on Caton Moor were flying very low varying between 10' to 30' above the ground. Movement slowed down a bit after 1020hrs.
